Our club member for 32 years, John Blount, is now one of 17 Directors of Rotary International. We are proud and honored to have one of our own as a Director of RI. This position is recognition of his dedication to and respect for the ideals of Rotary as well as years of hard work in Rotary.
John and his wife Patti moved to Sebastopol in 1976. The next year John opened his dental practice in Sebastopol and also joined the Sebastopol Rotary Club sponsored by the reigning club president Bill Sullivan. He jumped into the club activities immediately and helped write and be a part of the debunking of his sponsor.
John’s energy and enthusiasm is legendary in our club. He brought audio-visual technology into the clubs activities. This expertise has grown with his involvement and now has a life of its own. Our AV group is renown in the District.
John served with distinction as our President in 1982-83. He stepped up again in 1990-91 and became the youngest to serve as District Governor for District 5130. His year was marked by the “Back to the Future” themed District Conference that is still remembered with awe and respect, laughter and fondness. John’s charisma and leadership talent is evidenced by the support he always has from club members and other Rotarians he works with.
The old saying “behind every great man is a great woman” in this case reads “beside this great man stands a great woman”. Patti has been there for John and the Sebastopol Rotary Club supporting John’s efforts and making his level of involvement in Rotary possible. She officially joined our club in 1995 and has been a major influence for children’s programs in our community helping to develop the “Read to Me” and the “Third Grade Dictionary” programs in our club.
John and Patti Blount have made “Service above Self” a daily commitment in their lives.
